Miles Davis begins his leap toward electric jazz on 1968’s Miles in the Sky, the fifth and final album with his celebrated Second Great Quintet. Featuring Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams, the record marks the first appearance of electric piano, electric bass, and electric guitar on a Davis album. Tracks such as “Stuff” and “Paraphernalia,” the latter featuring George Benson on guitar, begin bridging acoustic jazz with the rock and fusion experiments that would soon define Davis’ next era.
