Now available at Round Hill Music Co. in Greenwich, CT
At Round Hill Music Co., we have the privilege of working with some truly special instruments, but only a few rise to the level of cultural artifacts. The Gibson Custom Keith Richards 1960 ES-355 Collector’s Edition, Signed Label, is one of those rare guitars. We are incredibly fortunate to have #54 of only 100 worldwide available now, both in store at our Greenwich, Connecticut showroom and online at roundhillmusicco.com.
This is not simply a limited edition guitar. It is a museum-level collector’s piece, personally hand-signed by Keith Richards, and built as a no-compromise recreation of one of the most iconic instruments in rock history. Opportunities to acquire guitars of this caliber are exceptionally rare, and examples with this level of provenance seldom make it to the retail floor.

A guitar forever tied to rock and roll history
Few musicians have shaped popular music as profoundly as Keith Richards. For more than six decades, the “Human Riff” has been the heartbeat of The Rolling Stones, inspiring generations of players with a style that is equal parts feel, attitude, and restraint. His influence extends far beyond technique. It is about sound, swagger, and an instinctive understanding of what serves the song.
Among Keith’s many legendary instruments, one stands above the rest. His black 1960 Gibson ES-355 is widely regarded as the most coveted guitar in his collection. Keith first began using an ES-355 in 1969, bringing it into the studio during the legendary recording sessions for Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St.. Since 1997, that same black 1960 model has been a constant companion on every Rolling Stones world tour, becoming inseparable from his onstage image and tone.
An exacting recreation from Gibson Custom
The Keith Richards 1960 ES-355 Collector’s Edition represents Gibson Custom’s most obsessive and detailed work. Built entirely by hand in the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, this instrument is not a tribute or an interpretation. It is a near-clone of the original guitar Keith made famous.
Using advanced 3D scanning technology, Gibson captured every contour of Keith’s original ES-355. The result is a recreation built with identical materials, period-correct construction techniques, and painstaking attention to detail. From the neck carve to the electronics to the finish wear, every element was designed to reflect decades of real-world use.
Construction, materials, and vintage-correct details
The body features traditional ES-355 construction with a multi-ply bound maple/poplar/maple laminate, paired with red spruce bracing and a weight-relieved maple centerblock. This combination delivers the sustain and resonance expected from a vintage semi-hollow, while keeping feedback under control at stage volumes.
The mahogany neck uses a Custom Keith Richards profile derived directly from 3D scans of the original guitar. It measures approximately .801 inches at the first fret and .905 inches at the twelfth fret, with a 1.625-inch nut width. The bound ebony fingerboard is fitted with mother-of-pearl block inlays and Medium Wide fretwire, staying faithful to the original instrument’s feel and playability.
Hardware appointments include a Bigsby B7 vibrato tailpiece and Grover Rotomatic tuners with Milk Bottle buttons. All metal parts, plastics, and the ebony nitrocellulose finish have been expertly aged by Gibson’s Murphy Lab artisans, recreating the wear patterns and patina earned through decades of sessions and tours.
Electronically, the guitar is equipped with a pair of unpotted Custombucker pickups with Alnico 5 magnets. These are wired to CTS 500k audio taper potentiometers and paper-in-oil capacitors, delivering the unmistakable voice associated with Keith’s original ES-355. The result is a sound that is open, dynamic, and unmistakably vintage.
Limited to just 100 signed examples worldwide
This Signed Label Collector’s Edition is limited to only 100 guitars globally, each bearing Keith Richards’ hand-signed signature on the f-hole label. Each instrument ships in a Gibson Protector Series hardshell case and includes a certificate of authenticity and a guitar strap.
For collectors, this level of documentation and provenance is essential. For players, it represents the rare chance to experience a historically accurate recreation that feels alive in the hands.
